The Beer Sins of Yosemite National Park

We ended up at Yosemite National Park over the Memorial Day weekend - my family and a friend's - and ... it was amazing. Iconic. Beautiful. Breath-taking. Inspiring. Everything you have heard or read about Yosemite is true. It is massive and huge and powerful and deserving of our preservation

Their food court? Not so much. Confusing lines. Sad, burnt discs that once resembled hamburgers are yours for the taking for only $5.50, not including fries.

But at least they had beer, I thought.

Well, technically yes, they did have beer in their coolers. Along with Coronas and some other mass-produced names, they also had an IPA, a stout and a helle. Yay!

No yay!

Here is the brand they serve at Yosemite National Park:
Base Camp beers.

Out of Portland, f*cking Oregon.

I have nothing against Base Camp beers if on tap somewhere and that's all there is.

But I do have something against Base Camp beer being served at Yosemite National Park.

A landmark. Of the state of f*cking California.

Not Oregon.

Why the f*ck are we offering Oregon beer at one of the most iconic, most revered, most traveled-to destinations not just in California, but in the world?

Here we have the opportunity to showcase California-crafted beverages, to show a thirsty world what we offer, and we steer them to Oregon.

What the f*ck.

We live in a state with one 400 breweries (that's a guesstimate as it's late and I don't feel like looking up specific numbers), some of them world-famous, and yet the best Yosemite offers is sh*t from Portland?

San Diego.

Los Angeles.

San Francisco.

Portland.

Seriously?

This is a sin on a state-wide level, and we need to redeem ourselves and ask for forgiveness soon.

What say you? Ready to claim back what is ours?
